The Fat Lady sings

Due to events that have transpired recently. MagicCityMotoring will not be updated. The site will remain up for some time but I no longer intend on maintaining the site. It has been a great run, but I have to much work and not being able to take time for those that mattered has cost to much. Thank you for your support. If things change you will be informed. All photo galleries also now have been locked out, email if you wanted to see a photo.

What a weekend

We hope all of those readers in the South came through last weekend just fine. Friday was great and as just about everyone know Saturday was a rain filled tornado alley sort of day for the surrounding area. Everything seemed to get canceled on Saturday including all events down in 'dega. What do you do with 50,000+ NASCAR fans when you cancel a race, from what I hear they come up to see the Barber Museum. Or from what has been said almost a thousand NASCAR fans made the trek to The Barber Vintage Motorsport Museum and I am sure a few more stopped by the Bass Pro Shop next door. So the rain washed away everything Saturday and MagicCityMotoring stayed in the garage trying to make 2 of the 3 British cars down there run. 0 for 3 by days end. Sunday we loaded up for another autoX with the GreaseGirl. Who had to use a borrowed car, thanks to a deer and her knowing more than just the counter people at Enterprise who said no racing our car, bummer. She had a good day and I forgot all about the reschedule of the Trussville event, which took place Sunday afternoon. (If you know the dates for any other event that has been rescheduled let us know.)

This weekend you will find the MCM editors at the Walter Mitty Historic Races at Road Atlanta. If you are out there come by and say hi, it is something that can't be missed. However if you do remember the Legends Of Motorsport event at Barber Motorsport Park in three weeks (May 20-22). Of course if you are staying in B-town look at our events page again 16+ events going on in the area this week to help you get that car fix.

The Moody Police and Rex Lake Road

Okay this is a Birmingham deal and sort of a soap box. As most in the area know Rex lake Road in front of Barber's Motorsport Park is being widened. In this time of contruction there has been a reduced speed limit enacted. This is not a while workers are present speed limit but a true Black and White sign 25 mph zone for the portion of Rex Lake that streches from Hwy 78 to just [ast Barber Motorsports Parkway. I want it known I do not disagree with the speed limit if it what is felt is needed to keep the workers, ther equipment and our cars safe that is fine. My bitch is about the Moody Police department and thier half-hazard enforcement polices. If you are going to enforce a speed limit enforce the speed limit. Everyday not when you feel like it. Do not tailgate those of us who are going the speed limit while driving your patrol cars. Ticket those that pass in no passing zones. Ticket those that pass in the turn lane that I am about to use. If and when I break a law I am prepared to pay the price, so I figure this must be the same for everyone. I feel bad holding up 14 cars behind me when I am going 25, but right now I like having the extra 100 bucks in my pocket. So I am not asking you to go away and let us blow down Rex lake at 80, but to be there all the time to enforce every law, not just the speed limit. And for all safety's sake ticket the school bus that has now twice passed me.

Now with that said there are 16 car events in the area this weekend. So we hope to see you at one somewhere. Also don't forget the Walter Mitty the following week. The entire MCM staff will be there for the weekend.

Get ready for it

Look an update within 3 days! this is what we should be doing every week. No patting myself on the back just yet, it was noticed that the home page never received an update to the event schedule. Duh! The code was there but never uploaded. That is now fixed. Boy did it need fixed we are heading into a busy weekend not this one April 16-18 but the following week. Be sure to check the main calendar and plan accordingly between April 20 and 25 there are 15 events listed. Yes that is right 15 events in 5 days! All but one within a day drive of Birmingham. (You can do Carlisle in a day but it is a long day.) Get ready and get planning.

On do notice two new clubs have been added to the Club listings also. If you have viper or Mustang be sure to check.

Speeding

We imagine you expect the whole scoop on IRL and Grand Am at Barber's, however with the entire race weekend getting national coverage we are going to pass on race news. This blog is just a post with a neat little table showing the truth in speeding.

Ready for the weekend!

Hey at least I get to this blog once every two weeks now. I am trying to get better but the MagicCitymotoring crew has been busy. That PBOC/Viper days, the autoX, and the Statewide Corvette meet darn near killed us and added some miles to the old car. If you haven't checked it out take a look at the Vette pictures from Barber's. we were able to take a picture of each Vette that did the track lap with Race Control and the Scoring Tower in the background.

We won't be here much of the weekend as the BIG GRAND-AM/INDY RACE this weekend at Barber's will be keeping us busy. Come on out you won't be disappointed. But check Facebook for possible updates. We will also upload all the pictures taken each day to the site so be sure to check that out.

Our partner site www.thegreasegirl.com has been involved with a charity dinner -Fins, Fenders, and Fun. They are featuring Bobby Allison and saluting Rick Humphrey , with A Salute to Racing in Alabama. This dinner is benifiting the UAB Liver Center. This should be a fun light evening around some great car people, with a note on each ticket -NO TIES ALLOWED- so dress correctly. Contact us magiccitymotoring@gmail.com or goto www.thegreasegirl.com for a full feature on this event.

Oh and finally last weekend MagicCityMotoring took the weekend off to go pick up a classic 1950 Chevy 3800 Long-bed pickup. We plan on showing up to a few events with this truck over the summer. This truck is an amatuer restoration and runs good, but need attention. The previous owner was going to donate it to charity (something that MCM does not support, as these vechicles normally get scapped for polution credits), instead we were able to get the owner agree to allow us to resell it for him. Contact us if interested.

Last Minute Update (3-26-2010)

Just in there will be a Corvette gathering at the Colonades this evening (3-26-2010). They are expecting 100+ Corvettes in this gathering prior to the Statewide Corvette Meet at Barber's tomorrow. (Plus PBOC Racing and DE and Viper Days at Barber this weekend). Who mixed Vipers and Vettes?

Oh don't forget SCCA AutoCross on Saturday and SCCA RallyCross Sunday.

Trying, really trying

It has been 16 days and we have been busy. We made it to the AutoX and the MagicCityMotoring/GreaseGirl.com team took second in class. Made it to the RallyCross to watch and shoot some photos. Be on the lookout for a MagicCityMotoring RallyX car in the near future. (Anyone got a 323GTX they are not doing anything with?) We did miss checking to see if the Alabaster cruise in had started, however. Last week we headed down to the Amelia Island Concours. This is a show you need to go to. Even if you go on Saturday where darn near everything is free you will be on automobile overload. Bugatti's, SLS's, Spyker's, you name it is there and with the right bank account or smile you could be racing down the road in one of these. You may have to settle on a Porsche Panamera or a new Jag but hey the dealer isn't going to let you do it without a sales pitch. Check www.thegreasegirl.com for an indepth review of that trip.

Check the Event Photo page for photos from all these events and more. We came across the missing hard drive so in addition to the 2000 photos taken in the last 16 days another 1200 or so have been uploaded. Which does lead me to announce that we have modified the photos system and now there is a dedicated page listing all the events by date. Look for the Event Photo tab at the top of your screen. If it is clickable there are photos to be seen, if you can't click the photos are in the queue. Another 20+ events were added to our list tonight and that list is holding strong with over 100 events at any one time. We have also now listed our first Drag Race event and more will be coming along.

Finally MCM will try to be at the AutoCross this weekend, the RallyCross, Viper Days at Barber, the PBOC event, the Statewide Corvette event at Barber's, and finally as a show of support we will vote on the motorcycles that were just built for the pilot TV show "The Recycler" that will be on display in front of the Barber Vintage Motorsport Museum Sunday.

The season has started

Well the real amateur race season seems to have started. MagicCityMotoring found its way to the SCCA autocross at The Birmingham Race Course (aka The Dog Track) this morning. This week turned out to be less labor intensive than last week as everyone's tire issues had been sorted since the test and tune. No work for MCM don't you dare say that, we clicked off 1000 or so pictures and did some networking. The pictures are being uploaded now and should be posted tomorrow.  Congrats to MagicCityMotoring "sponsored" drivers Diana "The Grease Girl" for her second in class, Joel for his marked improvement (5th in class I think)and Savy for her first every AutoX finish of 7th in class (not last either). Also keep in mind Savy is new to rowing your own gears and was only 12 or so seconds off FTD. It was a well contested AutoX.

After a well run autocross (props to the SCCA guys and gals who are the team this year) MCM headed over to Barber's for the PCA DE (Porsche Club of America Driver's Education) to hang with a few friends and of course take photos so you can pretend you were there. We did make to the PCA dinner afterwords, but were unable to due the scouting trip to see what cruises were happening.

Well time to attend to some photos and then off to bed Rally Cross and more PCA tomorrow.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Last weekend made it to the SCCA AutoCross. If you have never tried this event you need to. Fastest 40mph you will ever drive and you will pick up some amazing car control skills. Bring out anything, heck there was a Honda Pilot on the course and it was smoking some of the S4 Audi's and Miata's that were there. We didn't get lots of pictures as I ended up playing pit crew to some of the Audi's dealing with tire problems.

This weekend we am going to commit car suicide. Saturday looks like SCCA AutoCross to help get the day started for thegreasegirl.com racing team and the Audi guys, then run over to have lunch with MOB Inc. at Logan's 280, afterwords we will head to Barber's to see some of the PCA DE. Sunday will be a little better just going to check out the SCCA RallyCross at their new location then head to Barber's for a few.
